Celine closes

FOLLOWING a critically acclaimed Resort collection launch last month - the first offering by creative director Phoebe Philo - Celine has taken the unusual step of closing its only London standalone, on Bruton Street. Whispers abound of recession-related problems, but the powers that be at Celine are staying tight-lipped for now.

Although the luxury label closed the store - its only UK standalone - last week, it still is not able to comment on the brand's retail future in the capital. Reports that Celine may stock its latest offering in Dover Street Market in the interim, whilst it searches for an appropriate new location in the city, have also been dismissed by sources at the house.

Meanwhile, for worried fans of Celine's collection, a selection of ready-to-wear and accessories are still available from Harrods and Harvey Nichols - until news of a possible London outlet are revealed.
