As part of its May music season,Selfridges will be launching one of its most ambitious window scheme in years when it unveils Sounds Of the Mind later this month.10 of the hottest music artists around have designed a window each, based on one of their own songs with which they feel a particular affinity or which has a special meaning to them. The idea behind Sounds Of The Mind is both herald the start of the music festival season, something that has become very British-and forever growing, summer phenomenon, but also to celebrate the art power and impact of song lyrics.
So much of the emphasis in a song is put on its soundtrack that sometimes the lyric is overlooked. With Sounds Of The Mind,Selfridges is giving ten artists-including Brit winners Florence and The Machine and Dizzee Rascal as well as the uber-cool French star Charlotte Gainsbourg, the opportunity to express their lyric visually .in three-dimension,making it more meaningful and explicit than ever before.
In addition to the artist's collaborations,Sound Of The Mind will also encourage audience participation via an exclusive competition with a £500 spending money prize to be used on Selfridges' newly launched online store,at selfridges.com.Note that the game doesn't apply to the 10 artists collaborative windows, but on other selected store windows.
The principal is simple: guess the title of the songs depicted across the seven windows of the London store's Duke Street side and four windows of the Manchester Exchange Square Store.(These have been created by the Selfridges creative team).Guess each song correctly and enter the competition at selfridges.com/guessthesong.
