Liberty Celebrations

London's Liberty department store will host a celebratory exhibition from August 8 to September 2.

Aptly entitled Prints Charming, the exhibition will explore the versatility of the Liberty print and showcase a collection of new designs created exclusively for Liberty by British artists including Grayson Perry.

The fabrics, as well as products made from them (such as lampshades, notebooks, luggage tags and scarves), will all be available to buy while a series of one-off pieces have been commissioned for the exhibition itself; Meg Matthews has created a line of wallpaper featuring whimsical, micro-floral prints and interiors company Squint has created chairs, tables and mirrors wrapped up in Liberty print which will take pride of place in one of the store's windows.

"Artistic creativity, in its many forms, has always been central to everything Liberty stands for, so to have the results of this inspiring partnership sitting alongside the designs created by Liberty Design Studio and coloured in a palette inspired by the Liberty archive, is a fantastic representation of how we consistently reinforce our identity through both old and new ideas," says managing director of Liberty Art Fabrics, Kirstie Carey.

And the print-fun doesn't stop there: the store's famous Tudor exterior will itself become a canvas, with its Carnaby Street-facing wall swathed in the Betsy micro-floral print. The exhibition will take place on the fourth floor. Vogue.co.uk

All about V&R Eau Mega fragnace

"The campaign image, Raquel Zimmerman shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, is based on an old 80's ad that the duo found online of a woman standing over a city and owning it, but not in that power-80's way.The spritzer is activated by squeezing the big V&R golden seal—or "megamizer," designed by Fabien Baron—while the nozzle is just for show. Apparently that technology took two years to develop.This is taken straight from the press material: "We dreamt of an essence that could express a new feminine freshness. 'Eau' in French has a slightly surreal connotation for those who can read between the lines."The juice itself represents the duality of the V&R brand as a whole, i.e. edgy luxury, a mix of floral-fruity (think violet, basil, pear) and rich-creamy (think sandalwood, cashmere, white musk).Like Flowerbomb, Eau Mega is going to be a major entry in the fragrance market—just as the name suggests—when it launches in October.

A few hints for S/S 10 NY Fashion Week

The first official look at how Spring 2010 New York Fashion Week is shaping up will come Friday, when the first edition of the Fashion Calendarships, but until then, here are a few hints.

“There will be a lot more shows than last year," according to The Calendar's Ruth Finley, which means Anna Wintour won't be pleased. Last season, Anna said that "a lot of people before were having shows that simply shouldn’t have been having them," adding: "It’s much better to see them in the showroom or more of a low-key presentation. It’s more realistic." It seems like a number of designers didn't heed her advice — Finley says that this upcoming season, "There are a lot of new people [showing] you have never heard of."

Pop-up Prada

MILAN-BASED luxury label Prada is drawing inspiration from another of the world's fashion capitals, to open a pop-up store in Paris. The boutique, located at Place Beauvau 92, will be open for five months from today - and melds the Italian and French, inside and out.

The outside of the store, which was designed by Roberto Baciocchi, evokes famous Parisian landmark the Mirabel Bridge and the store boasts an interior which combines Prada's rich history with its love for innovation.

Inisde, the chequered marble floors of of Prada's original store, in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan, are replicated, whilst in the upper floor of the two-floor 570 square metre boutique an inventive beige silk tent cloaks the fitting rooms.

The store will carry a selection of women's ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and footwear.

Burberry opens new store in Singapore

London, 22 July 2009 - Burberry is pleased to announce the opening of its largest store in the South East Asia region.

The 815 square metre store located in ION Orchard, Singapore’s shopping centre for art, architecture, and luxury, opened today.

The store carries a full range of ready-to-wear for both menswear and womenswear from the Burberry Prorsum, Burberry London, Burberry Lifestyle, Burberry Sports and Burberry Childrenswear collections. The Burberry accessories collection including bags, jewellery, shoes as well as fragrance, timepieces and sunglasses lines is also available in the store.

The store reflects the new Burberry design concept, developed by Burberry Creative Director, Christopher Bailey. Intrinsically British materials and themes are used throughout in a contemporary way. The store also features state of the art technology including cutting edge sound system, a WIFI connection throughout, VIP room with in built iPod docking stations and a giant 103” high definition LED video wall.

This is the sixth Burberry store to open in Singapore; other stores in the country include Paragon, Ngee Ann City, Takashimaya, Takashimaya Childrenswear and Isetan Scotts Childrenswear.

To mark the ION Orchard store opening, Burberry has designed a range of exotic leather accessories including handbags, clutches and small leather goods available exclusively in the store.

D&G 1030/50s inspiration..The thirties and forties references played through the displaced gloves used as headpieces and scarves, the shell-shaped buttons, the clunky wartime suede platform wedges, the homages to Schiap's shocking pink, and, of course, those huge, puffed-up leg-of-mutton sleeves, rising up in some cases to earlobe level. The spending on luxe materials and a cinematic level of beauty never ceased. Fox, dyed goat hair, mink, and rich brocades were worked into narrow-waisted silhouettes, alternating—though not much—with bell-shaped skirts.Sexy, CHIC, stylish..no further comments..

Chanel Clutch for $80?Not really..

These supremely clever totes were spotted on Fashionista Diary, it is a new collaboration between Brown's Focus and designer Oonagh O'Hagan. And, we have to say, until our Chanel classic quilted bag fund tips the scales, we're willing to fake it with this considerably less 'spensive $80 find. Definitely much cuter for toting mags and groceries than your average cotton tote, but alas, not to be a party-pooper, we can't help but wonder what the issues are here with copyright infringement.

Barbie in Vogue?

Barbie has scored a starring role in Vogue Italia's most iconic edition; the Black Issue, as the magazine styles the iconic doll in a collector's supplement. In July 2008, Franca Sozzani, editor-in-chief of VogueItalia, conceived the first Black Issue, starring models including Iman,Naomi Campbell, Liya Kebede, Sessilee Lopez and Jourdan Dunn - with the intention of sending a message to the fashion world about the importance of diversity in fashion.

"Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to Black Barbie," Sozzani said.

It's quite something for a young girl to pop into Primark one day for a quick little shop and end up, a few years later, appearing in the new autumn/winter ck CALVIN KLEIN ad, as the young British model Jourdan Dunn has (pictured here above left). She went from the shopping aisles of Primark, to the billboards of Topshop, to being the first black model in 10 years to open a Prada catwalk show, not to mention to giving a very refreshing acceptance speech at the Bristish Fashion.WOW!
