Autumn/winter 2009 ad campaigns

As a new image of Madonna modelling for the Louis Vuitton autumn/winter 2009 campaign leaks on to the internet, we thought we would take a look at our favourite new season campaign images so far. Read on and tell us what you think.

It shows the pop star in long boots, fingerless gloves and a mauve dress with bunny ears atop her head, reclining on a sofa clutching a Louis Vuitton bag.

Flutter’s Jill Golden Finds Inspiration in Dior-Clad Hipsters

Jill Golden from Flutter travels the world, gleaning inspiration from each city. And in so doing, she has made us seethe with envy. We only half kid. Flutter, named for Golden's passions in both travel and design, is a metal- and stone-based jewelry line with prices ranging from $95 to $365. Her fall collection, which is inspired by the Boulevard St. Germain in Paris, (specifically "the Dior-clad hipsters walking next to the Parisian ladies click clacking down the cobble stone streets") has a more grown-up feel than previous ones. "It is inspired by Paris, which is definitely the most sophisticated of the locations inspiring collections to date." (She's also based collections on Barcelona, Greece, Capri, and Buenos Aires.) Mixing raw cut stones (quartz, carnelian, amethyst, blue topaz) with gold, brass, silver, and gunmetal, Golden's combinations run between styles: from earthy boho to cool rocker. And that versatility has served her well: Brooke Shields has worn her pieces and Golden worked with Wren to design oversize pearl necklaces for fall '09. Flutter is carried in Sucre and Thistle & Clover, on Shopbop.com and of course, Flutternyc.com. Check out our favorite pieces from fall (hitting stores later this summer).

On July 1 Christie's in London will auction off a stunning full frontal nude ofKate Moss by Chuck Close in itsPhotographs sale. Taken in 2003, theartwork is estimated at about $11,500 - $16,000 but could easily go much higher.

PhotographersLimitedEditions.com you can now purchase signed limited edition works from some of the world's best known photographers.

The investment-quality pieces come in limited editions of 11-25. One of our favorites is this nude of Moss by British photographer
Rankin, taken in 2000. Produced in a limited edition of 25, the photo is priced at about $4,500.

The site also offers several of Rankin's other works including some celebrity portraits, as well as photos by the likes of Antoine Verglas, Arthur Elgort and Marc Baptiste, featuring many other gorgeous nudes.

Jonathan Saunders returns to LFW

Saunders, the Scots-born, London-based print specialist, who decamped to show at New York Fashion Week nearly two years ago, joins Burberry, Matthew Williamson and Pringle who have all decided to return home to show their spring/summer 2010 collections during the 25th anniversary celebrations for London Fashion Week.

In addition to running his own label, Saunders, 31, was also recently appointed the creative director of Italian brand, Pollini.

His own brand received an international boost earlier this year, when America's First Lady, Michelle Obama, wore a Jonathan Saunders dress from his winter 2008/09 collection to a performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance theatre, in Washington, which she accessorised with a brooch by another young British designer, Richard Nicoll.

Other celebrity fans include the actresses, Charlize Thereon, Sienna Miller and Thandie Newton.

In London his collections are sold at Liberty, Harvey Nichols, Harrods, and Browns.

London Fashion Week will take place from 18th – 22nd September at its new cultural home, Somerset House.

Valentino Primevere Tote

We've seen Valentino's flower purses before but this latest patent leather tote trades pretty for a bit of an edgier look. The black tote is covered with flowers for a look that is striking from a distance and fascinating once you get a closer view. The design peps up the basic tote style which is a 14" by 14" square that is 4" deep. The tote has goldtone hardware and there is also a detachable shoulder strap. It's on pre-order at Neiman Marcus for $2,495.

Celebrity style-kate moss

Kate Moss and boyfriend Jamie Hince set out on a shopping excursion in London yesterday. Is that Browns I see in the background? The super stuck to her usual uniform — black blazer, Ray-Ban Wayfarers — but switched things up in a pair of pleated denim shorts. Those large pleats remind me of the pleats on Alexander Wang's Gap/CFDA khaki shorts. I smell a trend, do you?

Miu Miu-Handbag of the week

Summer's finally here and we're having a Jane Birkin moment in Team Fashion. One thing Jane never left home without was her trusty basket and, even though this Miu Miu interpretation of the old plastic classic isn't exactly her vibe, we're utterly smitten and want to whisk her off to the continent tout de suite!

Dress her up for yachting on the Riviera, or dress her down (our recommendation) as a chic and colourful companion to this summer's staple distressed denim shorts and festival hair look. She's all you need to make a style statement this holiday season.

And for those of you worrying about the contents of your bag being on display and vulnerable to sliding out of the holes, needless to say Miuccia is one step ahead of you and has included a detachable drawstring satin slip.

What more could a girl wish for this summer? Credit cards at the ready...

Emma Watson and the Phantom Clothing Line

While you can't swallow everything you read in the News of the World, there are some tidbits you'd gulp down if they were even half true. The most palatable rumor of the day is that Harry Potter star and rising fashion ingenue Emma Watson is either designing or directing the creation of a clothing line to benefit the always-worthwhile UNICEF charity. Others have picked up on the so-far-unconfirmed item, which includes claims that she has been getting advice from none other thanKarl Lagerfeld. Given her recent spate of high-quality editorials, her smartly chosen wardrobe, and her status as a true darling of the industry, this magical tale doesn't seem like that much of a stretch. Stay tuned for the next thrilling chapter.

$157,000 Bottega Veneta Alligator Luggage Set

If you travel by private jet, there's no need to worry about your luggage getting beaten up in transit. Hence you can use a set of beautifully handmade cases crafted from the world's finest exotic leather. At least, we assume that's the rationale behind Bottega Veneta's outrageously opulent set of alligatorskin luggage. The six piece set, which includes three suitcases (small, medium and large), a beauty case and a duffle bag, costs $157,000; the pieces are also available individually, ranging from $23,000 to $47,000. All are finished in noce fume rich brown soft-finished alligator skin and feature burnished metal hardware with reinforced corners and locking mechanisms. And of course if you're traveling by private jet you can afford it.

Jo Malone's New Fragrance

There's been an overload of fragrance news lately -- from celeb launches to big name store scents -- and let's be honest, some of them will be hits but some of them will be major misses, and in five years we'll forget they even existed. ('Tis the harsh reality of the perfume world!)

But one iconic fragrance brand that
never misses is Jo Malone. The chic candles! The luxurious lotions! But most importantly, the amazing colognes!

From the classic
Red Roses to the more unusual note combos that sound like they would be weird until you put them on and realize how fantastic they smell
This September, Jo Malone will add another gem to its fragrance roster with the launch of Vanilla & Anise Cologne.

Inspired by the lush valleys of Madagascar, the scent is a warm blend of purple vanilla orchid, clove, neroli, star anise, oleander, and a slew of other exquisite notes for which Jo Malone is known.

It'll be the perfect scent to wear for fall -- sensual, cozy and exotic. Another winner for Malone!

Fall 2009 Look Book: H&M

H&M's upcoming Divided Exclusive collection, and now their Jimmy Choo collaboration, might be stealing the spotlight but their regular Fall 2009 range is trè chic. Here's a peak at the look book, which artfully styles Divided Exclusive and regular H&M pieces together. With the menswear shows starting next week and the Spring 2010 season looming, we think it might be time to actually start thinking about buying fall clothing.

Oscar de la Renta Alligator Bow Clutch

Oscar de la Renta dresses women beautifully and with an air of classic sophistication that is hard to come by. His clothes lack that of-the-moment trendy feel (which there is nothing wrong with) and make women of all ages feel superb in his clothing for years on end. Oscar also knows how to accessorize his women too. His Alligator Bow Clutch is quite stunning. It has a feminine and delicate quality juxtapose to a hard edge and dark colored exotic skin that creates a perfect balance. The Bow Clutch features a leather lining, interior side pocket and an optional chain strap. Dimensions: 11.5W" x 5.5H" x 1.25D". Price: $8690.

Mac-Sugar and spice

With bold eye and lip shades making a resurgence for spring/summer 2009, MAC's candy-coloured Sugarsweet collection of frosted make-up is an essential investment. Pinks. mauves, mint greens and violets all make an appearance in the 8 piece range of lipsticks, glosses, powder and cream shadows, highlighters, nail colours and false lashes. For a swirl of pearly prettiness, go for one of the Tricolour Lipglasses, a stacked layer of cupcake-like gloss colours which blends together when applied for a playful, textured look. From £7.83, available from MAC counters and www.maccosmetics.co.uk.

Madonna Ciccone's boy toy for D&G advert

As many of you may have noted, Mr. Jesus Luz, currently serving as Madonna Ciccone's boy toy, has appeared shirtless, tanned, and ready for model fight club in the latest round of Steven Klein–shot Dolce & Gabbana ads. So taken is the design duo with Luz — to them he is “a modern emblem of hopes and dream [sic]” — that they have made sure he walks exclusively for them during the spring/summer 2010 menswear shows in Milan this week. In any case, Luz's trajectory from mere-mortal male model to celeb in his own right continues. They grow up so fast.

Meet the new girl-Jeneil Williams

Jeneil Williams has been on the scene for about three years now. And though you won't find the 19-year-old storming down every runway, her fans count in high places — like Anna Wintour, Franca Sozzani, and Mario Testino. A native of Kingston, Jamaica, her career started after she won third place in the Caribbean Model Search contest in 2005 and signed with New York Models, which led to a campaign for United Colors of Benetton shot by David Sims. Her Benetton campaign sparked interest from Anna Wintour, who requested a meeting with her along with Mario Testino. But that wasn't even her biggest break — that came when Franca Sozzani featured her as a newcomer in the all-black issue of Italian Voguein July 2008. Since then, Williams has also graced the pages of EssenceTrace, and French GQ, and, most recently, she stars in the Jawbone ad campaign (a Bluetooth company). And she's no stranger to the catwalk: Vena CavaRichard Chai,Zero + Maria CornejoL'Wren Scott, and Jean Charles de Castelbajac all booked her for their fall shows and Diesel also chose her to open. Lanvin also cast her for the fall show, cementing her status as a newcomer. We like Williams's career approach: It's not a race to the top, it's a steady climb.

Cesare Paciotti Envelope Clutch

Here's a pretty, classic clutch that will go with almost anything and just might never go out of style. Designed by Cesare Paciotti, thisCharcoal Silk Tasseled Envelope Clutch is bigger than I expected at just over a foot long (13" x 9 1/2") and combines the subtlety of a charcoal silk satin exterior with the pop of a bright red silk satin lining. Closes via a concealed magnet and has a single interior zip pocket, plus the 10+ inch tassel attaches with a silver clip and is removable. $274.95

Jimmy Choo for H&M

Fast fashion just got a boost with the announcement that H&M is partnering with shoe and handbag brand Jimmy Choo. The luxury brand, famous for sky-high stilettos and large purses, will create a line of shoes, bags and accessories for men and women that arrive in stores on November 14. Tamara Mellon, Jimmy Choo's founder and chief executive, promises "a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection - the perfect party pieces to buy now and then wear out that night!"

Jimmy Choo will create clothing for H&M which will be designed to match the accessories rather than the other way around. With all the designers pairing up with lower-priced stores there has been a bit of high-low fatigue lately but this particular collaboration should be a hot seller.

CK is back-Eva Mendes

As the international press and the fashion elite continue to roil and rumble about the denim pornography on display on Calvin Klein's Soho billboard, a new ad by the company is selling the same product (sex, not clothes) through different channels. This time it's noted clothes-shedder Eva Mendes carefully peeking down the underwear of a rather confused-looking male mannequin in a baby-oiled, black-and-white shot. Though technically more revealing than the Soho poster, we feel the public will be more receptive to this more traditional one-on-one pic.(from style.com)

At Chanel, Green Is A Go

Style.com reports that they just got confirmation from Chanel that the fab mint green nail polish seen at the Paris Chanel show will be available this October in a limited edition. Peter Philips' dreamy jade lacquer from the brand's Fall 2009 collection has indeed gone into production and will be released as a limited-edition offering in October. It will be joined by a Jade Rose shade as well, although I am a bit more excited for the original minty green that was spied back in March. It might just be the next frenzy-inducing color in the company's long line of cult favorites that have helped carve out the politics of polish.
I loved this color on the catwalk and can't wait to see it in person

Beachy summer waves

Beachy, tousled waves are summer’s perfect go-to hair style and this season’s take on the trend has a luxe, polished twist.
Seen all over the s/s09 catwalks, from Paul & Joe to Moschino Cheap & Chic, overly teased, salt sprayed locks have disappeared and in their place is a chicer look.
To get the look Vas Karpetas, Creative Director at TOMMYGUNS says ‘Blow dry your hair with a large round brush taking sections and wrapping them around the barrel. Hold and dry for a few seconds, then unravel the hair and comb through with fingers to break up the sections. If you find it hard to unravel the hair from the brush, try switching the hairdryer to cool and then unravel it.’
The ELLE team loves Clever Curls and Waves Texture Spray, £5.86 by
TOMMYGUNS, spray a little over the finished style to separate the waves and to add hold.

Stella McCartney Tote bag

Metallics aren't usually my favorite but something about this Metallic Fabric Tote by Stella McCartneyreally caught my eye. It's a pretty burnished brass color that acts as a neutral as far as pairing it with outfits goes, and it has a little bit of a "structure forced to go casual" vibe about it that I really like. A wide beige strap ties around the center, decorated with geometrical resin details on the ends. It comes with a small purse chain and one zip pocket on the inside, plus an adjustable shoulder strap. $608

Alberta Ferretti is launching her first scent, with the help of Claudia Schiffer.

This autumn Alberta Ferretti will launch a signature scent, produced Elizabeth Arden Inc.

The as yet untitled perfume is, says Ferretti, ' inspired by the sensuality of a woman', which is why she says Claudia was a natural fit for the first campaign, shot recently by Mert and Marcus.

'Claudia is a beauty icon and a woman whose sensuality comes from her unique and inimitable personality', says Ferretti.

In related news - Gisele has been confirmed as the new face of Loewe. She fronts the new campaign for the Spanish luxury lable shot by Inez and Vinoodh, showcasing accessories designed by ex- Mulberry creative director Stuart Vevers.

The real devil wears prada documentary

The story goes the frosty editor of US Vogue gave permission for this revealing documentary to prove she isn't really the devil although she does occasionally wear Prada. Shot over nine months, it tracks the Vogue team, led by Wintour, editor of 20 years, putting together the September 2007 issue, in the good old days pre-credit crunch remember? This is not so much a fashion version of The Office as an insight into the exhilarating yet terrifying fashion world inhabited by stick-legged, Manolo-wearing fashion robots (known as the Voguettes). Everything is here from the politics of personal to awesome behind the scenes footage of international catwalk shows. At the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009, despite being one of many heavyweight human interest films, this was a surprise hit perhaps because it contained every single human emotion from pain and humiliation to compassion. All just another day at the Vogue office. Wintour gave director, RJ Cutler, complete freedom to edit the movie ("he showed us the film a little while ago and we made a few suggestions, all of which he ignored," she says). Most revealing is the stoical relationship between Wintour and her creative director, Grace Coddington, perhaps the only woman who isn't frightened of the scary lady-with-a-bob. Best bitchy bit is when you hear the September cover girl, Sienna Miller, needs re-touching because of her dodgy teeth and hair!

Going loco for Coco..

Chanelmania explodes on to the big screen this year with three films out about the life, loves and times of the famous French designer who revolutionised womenswear in the 20th century. As well as an artsy 10-minute silent snore-fest by Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel/Paris-Moscou), there are two rather more exciting major works, exploring the extraordinary woman who re-wrote the book on fashion. First is Coco Avant Chanel (out 22 April), an epic by French director/screenwriter, Anne Fontaine, which features sumptuous costumes, outstanding photography and the beautiful and very believable, Audrey Tatou in the lead. Chanel And Igor Stravinsky, directed by Jan Kounen, explores the relationship between the ruthlessly ambitious designer (played by husky-voiced French star, Anna Mouglalis) and the controversial Russian composer (Bond baddie, Mads Mikkelsen) who wrote the score for The Rite Of Spring performed by The Ballets Russes, which remember, scandalised Paris in 1913. Be warned: if you don't speak French, a dictionary is a must as these come in Chanel's authentic mother tongue. It's good to learn more about the person behind the awesome clothing legacy. Which is why both are worth a butcher's.

Elle MacPherson Cuts The Price On Her London Home Again

Model Elle Macpherson is the latest celeb to drop the price of her home more than once. The Australian supermodel first put her London home on the market for £9.5 million last summer. The seven-story, Grade II-listed property is located in the Notting Hill area. Macpherson dropped the price to £8.95 million a while back but now she has switched agencies and dropped the price to £7.5 million.

She has a recurring role in a new television show, "The Beautiful Life" which will debut in the U.S. this fall. She bought the home in November 2006 after her break-up with multi-millionaire Arpad Busson, the father of her two children. Busson is now engaged to Uma Thurman. The Victorian property was built in the 1850s and has six bedrooms. It has been redone in a modern style and includes a large kitchen with multiple islands
